Session Notes
The best learning experiences I’ve ever had were sitting in on recording sessions with other producers, tracking engineers, and mastering engineers. Just being a fly on the wall taught me a ton. The next best thing was getting to pore over analog tape track sheets and any session documentation I could find. And any photos or video of the sessions ... damn, the holy grail. What mics were used? In what order did they track? How long did it take? How many takes did they do? Did they comp or edit between takes? There are thousands of classic sessions I’d gladly give a pinky toe to see at that level of detail.
Because those opportunities are so rare, I want to share the kind of videos and session notes I always wished I had access to. Even if I'm not working with famous records everyone is clamoring to hear, you can still get something out of the process.
